Teamworking

ATP Moldova’s recent work has proven again how beneficial working side by side with trusted colleagues is. It come from the translation of the UNDP Moldova Human Development Report for 2009-2010 made by our colleagues Elena Bivol, Svetlana Chiriţa and Eleonora Rusnac. They admit that it was worth being involved in this translation project as they learnt a lot from it: concise and accurate style usage; simple language usage, understandable to the general public; rich vocabulary usage and repetition avoidance; familiarity with different formatting requirements; adjustment and unification of styles and terms.

Soulful assembly event

ATP has organized a meeting with Eugenia David and Vlad Pohilă, both are very experienced translators who are excited about their jobs. We still remember exclamations expressed by Mrs. David: „What a beautiful translation!” and „Artistic translation is a miracle!” Those attending the meeting were captivated by the stories related to the guests regarding the recent and present time.  Mrs. David considered that „Translators are not appreciated at their true value”.

Vlad Pohilă mentioned that translation is a big source of joy. Mr. Pohilă indicated many things needed to become a good translator. There are some requirements that translators should meet: to be fluent in the language; to be aware of certain realities; to be aware of people’s inner aspects; to know people’s history; and to work hard. Vlad told us how to translate idioms since they are the most difficult to deal with in translations. He also introduced us to a new term – transadaptation!”

Gaining new experience

Some time ago five ATP Moldova translators provided services to a mission from Japan, JICA representative. The mission’s expectations far exceeded the translation team’s narrowly focused activity: the translators were expected to act as local consultants in different domains. Elena Bivol was an „expert” in the banking and finance sector. Eleonora Rusnac performed various liaison activities, i.e. ensured contacts between the mission and numerous international organizations in Moldova. Mrs. Rusnac had to bear responsibility both for her own translation and her colleagues’ work. Maria Postevca showed herself as the most „resistant” person, both physically and psychologically: she translated interviews that lasted for 4 and more hours. Natalia Conovca, our young but experienced colleague, was in charge with long-distance trips (Giurgiuleşti, Ungheni, etc.) and handled that very well. Inesa Foltea,  our fifth colleague, showed herself very skilful at setting meetings.
