The Association of Professional Translators of Moldova (ATP Moldova) is a non-profit non-governmental organization founded in January 1998. ATP Moldova's main goal is to ensure communication and cooperation among the members of the professional community with a view to promote high quality translation and interpreting services both in Moldova and abroad.
In accordance with its mission, the Association of Professional Translators of Moldova (ATP) is the agent of the interpreter/translator profession in Moldova and abroad; ATP Moldova organizes workshops and trainings as part of the continual efforts to provide lifelong learning opportunities, provides consulting and referral services to interested persons and organizations. Key activities of ATP Moldova include, among others, training of aspiring interpreters and translators and organization of events to facilitate communication and exchange of experience with other stakeholders.
Members of the Association of Professional Translators of the Republic of Moldova (ATP Moldova) met for the fourth time at their retreat reunion to discuss issues related to promotion and to exchange of experience in the field of translations. Mr. Ion Stăvilă, Ambassador, representative of the Ministry Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) of the Republic of Moldova and Mrs. Lucia Popovici, translator, editor-in-chief of the Polirom publishing house from Iasi, Romania attended the event as invited speakers.
Referring to the profession of translators and to the accurate (word-for-word) translation Mr. Ion Stăvilă, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine and, concurrently, to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan within from 2010 to 2015, at present Ambassador with special missions within the MFAEI, emphasized the important role of translators in the events held with the participation of the high level officials.
Mrs. Lucia Popovici, translator and editor in chief at the Polirom publishing house in Iași (Romania), shared with the participants to the event a number of issues related to the translation of books and movies, based on her own experience. The distinguished guest mentioned that the profession of a translator is a job that requires a lot of work, discipline, but also passion. This is a conclusion of a professional who worked in the field of translations for 14 years and translated more than 20 non-fiction books from English into Romanian.
In the discussion with the ATP members Lucia Popovici answered many questions regarding observance of the translator's ethics, resolution of disputes, competition on the translation market, negotiations with employers, etc.
The participants to the event thanked the guests for their presence, communication, exchange of ideas and acknowledged that such meetings contribute to the consolidation of the Association and are beneficial for the cultivation of solidarity among members. They also constitute an important training tool.
In this context, Eleonora Rusnac - president of the ATP mentioned that the Association is open to act as a platform of discussions and exchange of experience for all persons working in the field of translations. Extension and deepening of the cooperation relationships with colleagues-translators from other countries is one of actions included in the Association's future plans.
